The Clean Surface

If you want your floor to last you will need to ensure that the floor under your chosen carpet, vinyl or laminate is a good quality. Often we focus more on the final result and so may spend less time ensuring the subfloor preparation is perfect. To ensure you get a long-lasting perfect result we check the following things before laying your floor.
Firstly we check that there are no traces of old adhesive residues so you don’t get any lumps in your floor. If your floor is very uneven and requires holes filled or the grinding down of lumps we can fix this at an additional charge. We can’t foresee every issue until we see your subfloor bare, we will advise you of what your floor needs and the cost at the time.

Check For Moisture

Moisture levels below 75% relative humidity are ideal for  Luxury Vinyl like Karndean and Amtico, it’s imperative that you install a surface damp proof membrane if the moisture level is higher.We recommend the use of a minimum 6 mm flooring grade plywood meeting the requirements of the CFA Guidance, It’s important to remember that plywood joints should be smoothed over using skim coat or a full coat of fibre reinforced smoothing compound. This will keep your floor at the optimum moisture level.

Concrete Floors

If moisture levels are too high on concrete we prepare it with a surface damp-proof membrane. If relative humidity readings are suitable for installation and the surface has been primed, then we apply a compatible smoothing compound to a minimum of 3mm.

Screeding

We select the right smoothing compound for your project (residential, commercial, retail etc), its size and timescale. This thin cementitious top layer will ensure that your floor copes easily with the hardships it’s put it through. So it’s important to consider the spaces ventilation, humidity etc, installation specifications, as well as the curing times.
